That’d be some lunch break

January 29, 2007 by Mary Owlhaven

The other evening the four year old and one of the eight year olds were talking about how many kids they might like to have when they grow up.

“I think I’ll have thirteen!” said the four year old.

“Well, you’ll have to talk to your husband about that,” I told her.

The eight year old shook his head. “I wouldn’t like thirteen. That’s too many for me.” He paused for a moment, thinking. “I hope my wife won’t get that many without asking me. Like, when I went out for lunch or something.”

And just whom does he plan to marry? LOL! She sounds like a busy girl! :o ) They’re so sweet! I’m glad you blogged about it and you can show him in 15 or 20 years when he is engaged.

Oh my, I honestly laughed out loud when I read this! My son always said he wanted 10 kids. One day my husband (I think trying to discourage him) asked, “but what are you going to do for a job to take care of all those kids?” His response: “I’m going to be a dad, silly.”

Bwah ha ha ha. Oh man. That would be one busy family. But fortunately they have a loving mom to help them learn the ropes of taking care of a big, wonderful family.

Hoo hoo. Ha ha. And why not have that many?

My daughters both want large families. One of them is so outspoken about it that, at 17, it has happened that a young man, upon meeting her, responded “oh, you’re the one I would never marry”, or something to that effect.

    His loss.

Hilarious! Funny that kids can just get picked up while you’re out to lunch…. :)

I'm Mary, wife to John, and mom to 10 kids ages 3-20. Six of them were adopted, from Ethiopia and Korea. I spend my days applying Bandaids, reminding kids to use their inside voices, persuading kids fractions are useful, cooking spicy ethnic food, and snapping gig after gig of pictures. Very late at night, I write about it all.
