On Saturday I asked people what they told their children about Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. I got lots of interesting answers. This week the Golden Keyboard goes to Melanie of Galvanized. Here’s the bit of her comment that really had me nodding:
But, unlike these guys, Jesus and our faith are a daily part of our lives. I certainly understand anyone who decides to toss out the notions of EB, SC, and TF, as I’m sure that they do other things to reward/give gifts to their children. But I think that the elements of surprise and wonder are a big part of childhood.
I'm Mary, wife to John, and mom to 10 kids ages 3-20. Six of them were adopted, from Ethiopia and Korea. I spend my days applying Bandaids, reminding kids to use their inside voices, persuading kids fractions are useful, cooking spicy ethnic food, and snapping gig after gig of pictures. Very late at night, I write about it all.

That was a good comment. I agree with her—Jesus is here in our house morning, noon, and night. Every day of the year, good or bad, whether we are sick or well, no matter what. As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.
The bunny and Santa? They show up, do their little jobs, the kids are delighted, and they go away.

I dunno my mom didn’t raise me with Easter Bunny or anything I always just saw those characters as things that made holidays fun. I was however force fed religion and now consider myself a sort of agnostic. I really liked Melanies comments though ^_^ She’s a great mom isn’t she? I think so.
