Shannon is asking us to share favorite name brands this week. I couldn’t mention brands without first telling you about my beloved Barkeeper’s Friend. Check out this insanely well-commented-upon post for all the details on that particular favorite of mine. In many other things I am willing to go generic– cost is definitely a huge concern in my mind. However, when it comes to hot dogs, I splurge. Ball Park beef franks are the only ones I’ll eat. OK, that’s all I’ve got this evening….what name brands do you refuse to live without?
Well I am in Australia so brands are more than likely different but :
Lavazza coffee (I am rather adamant about that!)
Lindt 70% cocoa chocolate
and Radiant laundry powder…
everything else is up for negotiation π
I just stumbled across your blog and you are keeping me entertained this evening, LOL.

From my part of the world (Malaysia), I think most people’s MUST HAVE is Milo.
It’s like how the British have their tea, and the Australians have their coffee. Over here, we NEED our Milo which is made of milk and cocoa. =)
I refuse to buy generic cola. Has to be Coke all the way. Everything else, not so much. Oh, I do have to have Kraft Mac N Cheese, the others just don’t taste as cheesy to me.
I hear you on the hotdogs. Must be all-beef, Ball Park Franks. There is no other. Oh, and OJ. I can’t stand the generic types, must have the real deal, not from concentrate.
I buy many generics, many cheaper brands. I’ve found store brands that are awesome. I also shop at Trader Joe’s and we have a few favorite foods there that you can get no where else.
Tarzhay has a good 100% juice no sugar added brand that we get. They have a few things in that line that we cannot live without.
My 5-year-old son may as well do an ad for OxiClean Laundry Stain Remover. “Gets the tough stains out,” he says very seriously. Then we’ll have serious conversations about how it really is better than Shout. It’s kind of sad, really, that a 5-year-old takes laundry stains to heart.
Tide Free.
Philadelphia Cream Cheese, reduced fat. Generic cream cheese just doesn’t cut it.
About the Barkeeper’s Friend…our local Dollar Store carries it! Sometimes it’s even Buy One, Get One Free. Isn’t that great? Other name brands…Colgate toothpaste and Cottonelle or Quilted Northern TP. No name brands there.
HEINZ ketchup!!
I just spent a half hour rereading all the comments on the blessed day! What a hoot. Ahhh BKF
I know I am brand specific about certain things but at the moment all I can think of is Bar Keeper’s Friend…GRIN
Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce! I think that’s the only one…. (((((HUGS))))) sandi
Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce! I think that’s the only one…. (((((HUGS))))) sandi~nope~Shaklee vitamins and laundry!
Scott Toilet Paper, Red Gold Ketchup, Plochmans Mustard, and Hidden Valley Ranch.
Just zooming in from WFMW! – Scott TP, SA8 laundry stuff, Gillette Venus razors, fresh milk from the local dairy – most else is up for grabs.
Heinz Ketchup, Hidden Valley Ranch, Huggies OR Pampers diapers–anything else just happens to be whatever brand is most cost-efficient.
Oh my gosh, you weren’t kidding about the comments on your other post. And that was in 2 days time? All I can say is…well, words don’t even come to me.
I love Ball Park beef franks, too.
I hear you on the Ball Park Franks… got them in my fridge right now. I’m a name brand freak. Charmin Ultra toilet paper, Viva paper towels, Pampers Cruisers, Dasani bottled water. I find one brand I like best of each item and I stick with it. The only “generic” I buy are the Costco baby wipes, which I like more than any other wipes and use for everything.
Ooooh we **love** BKF here too! Otherwise we are all generic (why pay for advertising?) except a few things to which generic cannot compare.
Cheerios
Vlasic whole baby dill pickles
Saran Wrap
Swiffer Wet Jet
Reynold’s plastic wrap, Claussen pickles, Oxi Clean stain remover
Hello! I’m a new reader. I wanted to post off this topic as I was reading your other blog and am not registered to comment there! I have SOOO enjoyed all that I’ve read and am doing what you wrote about – reading to find out what my future may hold! Anyway, my comment is about the toilet paper in the trash can. Shelley, who adopted three siblings from Ukraine, had the very same issue. It was solved (or at least a solution was facilitated) by removing the trash can from the bathroom. (I imagine it would be a small inconvenience in return for the help in reminding the children where the paper really goes.) I don’t know if you are still having this issue, but HTH.
Many blessings! Sincerely
Natalia
ya i like Hunts Ketchup, Charmin Ultra TP, Simply Orange OJ, and Orangina
We don’t have Ball Park ones.
I backed this evening home made sausages…
The brands I can’t do without are on my site.
Enjoy your day!
I love Nike shoes for basketball, and ball park franks for hot dogs… and I love Borders for bookstores (namebrand? sorta).

i don’t understand all this talk about ballpark franks… these people must have never had a nathan’s! π
Mary, thanks to you, I “discovered” BKF powder is the ONLY thing that will get the rust stains out of my bathroom fixtures! Hooray!
Only Coke will do (WITH caffeine and sugar, thank you!)
And really, is there any substitute for Nestle’s Toll House Morsels? I think not!
my sister loves Hebrew National hot dogs but I do love Ball Park Beef Franks.
Oh, and I SWEAR by the OxyClean spray stain remover. It really works on the tough stains like nothin’ else I’ve tried.
I’m a laundry maven.
jeannie
Kraft Ranch and Tide Laundry detergent are the only things I am picky about. π
Pepsi or Coke, Kraft Mac n Cheese, Jiffy Peanut Butter, Philly Cream Cheese, Kitchen Cooked Potato Chips, Prairie Farms Onion Dip, the real deal Cocoa Puffs, and Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing!! yeah, and the ballpark franks are the best when ya can’t get a genuine Chicago dog!!
Heinz ketchup
Oscar Meyer weiners
Huggies diapers – my sensitive girls couldn’t handle any other brand
Duncan Hines cake mixes
Cottonelle TP, and for paper towel I don’t care about brand but it has to be the “select-a-size” type.
Others: Starbucks Dark French roast coffee, HEINZ ketchup (How can you Hunts’ people resist those hilarious labels?) , Toll House morsels (Have tried many times to “convert” but always come back), Pine Sol cleaner (because of the smell), Tide detergent, Clinique foundation, Bullfrog GEL sunblock, and that’s all I can think of for right now.
Plus this is the first time I’ve posted here; only the secondtime I’ve visited this site. Just love it.
So glad to read about Oxi-clean by so many. I’ve always been a “Shout”girl myself, but am going to try switching…
Mostly we use generic brands, but a few must haves are…
Skippy Peanut Butter
Hellmanns Real Mayonaise
Cherrios
Marsha
*blush* Cottonelle TP, Kotex Ultra Thin Long, Organic Milk, eggs, and often meat. Ocean Spray CranRaspberry juice, Oxiclean, Joy dishwashing soap, Jiffy PB and Polaner Jelly… ooh, I think i’m a snob!!! Ivory soap and Suave products, Boars Head deli meats, …it would be easier to tell you what I DON”T care about: kitty litter, dog and cat food, laundry soap, dw soap, toothpaste/brushes, clothing and furniture, linens, bread products, snack products, … endless. But Mare, really, how much do you spend on FOOD each week?
