Do you have a porcelain sink that keeps getting black rub marks on it and you scrub like the dickens and STILL can’t get that black yuck off and it looks so bad that your hubby keeps threatening to buy a STAINLESS steel sink which you happen to hate the look of and what you really wish is that you could just get your pretty porcelain sink clean without an elbow like Hercules?
Two words, my friend.
Barkeeper’s Friend.
You find it in the cleaning aisle near the Comet in a Comet-like shaker can. Except inside the can lurks ten times the power of mere Comet. Get it. You’ll love it. Thank me later.
Thus ends this commercial. Now if only I could talk them into sending me a free case of the stuff.
For more tips, check out Rocks In My Dryer.
Always had a stainless steel!
Should I go out and get a porcelian sink AND Barkeeper’s friend?
I think you have one of the best blogs in the whole world!
Unrelated to this post:
I found this quote today and I thought of you!
Mitch Hedberg
“I like rice. Rice is great if you’re hungry and want 2000 of something.”
I have found these miraculous white sponges, made my Mr. Clean I think, and they get all marks off of my white sink.
I don’t think I could find BarKeeper’s friend where I live 😦
Aren’t you glad that you are done canning? It’s such a chore, so worth it, but such hard work. I would love to taste some of that salsa!
Sarah’s right on, you have a great blog.
You’ve mentioned that stuff several times, so maybe somebody will notice and actually will send you some for free.
He wants a stainless steel sink in the kitchen? You should tell him you’d need a new stainless fridge to match. Those are expensive. Maybe he’d change his mind.
I’ve heard such good things about this product I think I’ll have to buy it. Oh, and the stainless steel sink? It might not get black marks…but take a look at your faucets and tell me how often you have to polish them. And your husband wants a whole sink made of stainless steel? Ha, ha, ha.
hi olwhaven – just visiting your blog for the first time today, but so far i like it, you seem like a woman who has it together!
i also think it is fun that you do these “works for me” wednesdays – i bet u help a lot of popele out!
oh, and maybe you can do a survey for them of some sort or an advertisement or thell them how much u are already advertising them – and they’ll give u some free product…..?
I think by the end of the day we may be able to convince Barkeeper’s friend to send you some…really!
I finally went and checked out what this stuff is…..
http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/products.htm
hi. i don’t know you, but someone who wishes to remain anonymous told me i should check out your blog.
i have to admit though, i have seen stained “stainless steel” sinks before.
but this stuff sounds pretty sweet. much safer than the mixing of comet and something else that i used to do.
i’ve found that ajax is a lot stronger than comet, too. so i suppose barkeeper’s friend is even stronger than ajax. good to know.
also, i thought i should metion that the name makes it seem a little . . . . dirty? i guess. when i think of bars, i think of a dirty, grimy building, and clean doesn’t enter my thoughts. but i guess the point is that it can fiz even that amount of grodiness.
Email contact for barkeeper’s friend is lneace@iquest.net
I have already sent a comment, letting them know how much Mary raves about their product. My hope is get them aware of her willing plublicity and encourage them to send her some of their product.
Thanks for this tip…I’ve never tried this…but I hate the nasty sinks!
Thanks for sharing!
–Tracy
Another mention of Barkeeper’s friend.
1. First is a spray called Clorox® : Clorox® Anywhere. This morning I used it to clean my counters, my sink, my kitchen window and my appliances. I liked that I could use it for anything, even my stainless appliances. (Supposedly you can even use it to clean bottles, but that idea wigs me out a little. Chemicals in a baby’s bottle? Ew!) It is very mild-feeling, almost like water, but did a good job cutting grease and shining windows. It did not get my porcelain sink as clean as my beloved ‘Barkeeper’s Friend.’
I hate my stainless steel sink – I can’t make it look new again =)
Love the blog – how do yu mnage to make it interesting everyday? I’m lucky to update my blog a couple times a week – I think I need more kids to keep it interesting =)

I have a stainless steel sink
I can’t type worth a hoot – I need to check spelling BEFORE I press “submit” Jennifer
I wish I had a porclein sink
i don’t know how to spell porcelin
anyway, i have a stainless still sink and i don’t like it
my stainless steel sink gets white spots all over it
the white spots are from hard water
When your in the mood for canning again – some tips please – I want to can next year – where do I start.
Jennifer
anyway, i can’t get them to stop showing up
some cleaners i use leave it looking murky
i do like fly lady’s method though
first you clean your sink with bleach
let the bleach set for an hour
then later after it [the bleach smell] has gone away you clean the sink with windex
you should probably wait like an hour inbetween the windex and bleach
the two chemicals [windex & bleach] have deadly fumes together
speaking of bleach do you know HOW MANY clothes I have ruined by cleaning with bleach and spilling it
not to mention my carpet
i need to do a works for me wednesday today.
i keep forgetting
I think Sarah’s right. Surely by the end of the day there’ll be some free product heading your way.
Isn’t a toilet porcelian??
Maybe I do have need for it afterall.
I got to know my porcelian thrones…all too well…with pregnancy.
I threw up a hundres times each with both of my children. Not always in teh porcelian.
Any hints on what to do when your kids throw up on the outside of your vehicle? I splashed water on it, should i attempt to clean it with Barkeeper’s Friend?
I’m guessing that stuff works anywhere. I so hate cleaning toilets.
Seems like they just never get clean enough. And you notice it at the worst times.
Like when you’re throwing up.
Why? You may ask..is there throw up on the outside of my vehicle? Good question…
My son rolled down his window and upchucked all over the side of it. Thankfully not the inside. Bar Keepers Friend proabbly would have been no help there.
Loved your blog! Can’t imagine raising 8 kids! wow!!
Hear hear Kelli. Never clean enough!
Noticed at the worst possible times!
I have a porcelain sink and I love it! I have those black rub marks too but I had come to accept them. I’ll try Barkeeper’s Friend. Thanks for the tip!
Oh, I also have a big chip in my porcelain sink but I doubt there is anything to fix that. I was so bummed to find it within only weeks of installing it. Oh well.
For Mary’s thought on cleaning up puke; see here:
Like Sarah, I’ve been spending a lot of time at the porcelain throne as well (morning sickness). That bowl could definitely benefit from a visit from Barkeeper’s Friend.
What does “an elbow like Hurcelus” look like?
Is it that crusty, calluosed look?
Cause if it is, then I need this product because I would not want to end up with elbows like that!
Oh wait, to get callouses from cleaning, you actually have to clean.
Mary, I can not even imagine how much you need to clean. Good thing you have great products like Barkeeper’s friend!
Thinking of you…
Yesterday I went to the apple orchard. I have 1/2 bushel of apples.
How many apples did you have again this year? Blessed to overabbundance, rings a bell. I need to go look and see if you had an applesauce recipe up.
I think I’m going to need to go google barkeeper’s friend and see if this blog is #1 for it yet. 🙂
I found this…
“Oh, and here’s how we spent much of the day– processing 2 bushels of apples into 24 quarts of applesauce….
The two apple trees are still 3/4 full. Aren’t we blessed? My kids didn’t think so as they scrubbed peeled and sliced their way through a gazillion apples. But we are. ”
But no recipe. 😦
We’re not even in the top ten yet. How is that possible?
However, I found this link:
http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/sample.html
Email them at that link and they’ll send you a free sample.
In a google search of “Barkeeper’s friend blog” I found another person who really likes the stuff.
http://www.shelterrific.com/2006/05/17/cant-live-without-bar-keepers-friend/
I miss living in a place where apples grow.
I grew up going to upstate new York to pick apples every fall. There’s no place in Texas that’s the same.
On the search Barkeeper’s friend blog you are number 10.
In texas they have oranges and grapefruit.
I remeber picking the grapefruit fresh while visiting my great-grandmother one year in Texas….good times.
According to this home brew website
http://www.homebrewtalk.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=23
Bar Keeper’s Friend gets a 100% on responses.
I particularly like this comment from KornKob from above mentioned site..
“BKF does a great job of cleaning stainless including the stubborn scuffs, rust and oxidation that builds up on corney kegs.”
It appears that people out on the web…affectionately call it BKF.
Makes sense.
Did you win that eBay auction? lol!!! These comments are cracking me up!
And by the way, Barkeeper’s Friend should give you free product, I think you deserve it. Because I have a porcelain sink for the first time in my kitchen and I’ve been going mad trying to clean it -and I’m hoping Publix has some of the great product you keep raving about. And I’m going today to buy it.
Thanks again for the tip.
This comment is pretty funny too, when you think of it coming from a homebrewing man…
“Makes stainless shine like new. It even helps replenish the protective layer that makes stainless steel ‘stainless’. Use a soft sponge and your set. Easy to find in the cleaner section of most grocery stores.”
I just realized the above comment said “stainless steel”
Now I definately MUST go out and buy some.
I will have to look for Barkeepers Friend. Thanks for the tip!
I used to have a stainless steel sink. It drove me crazy. Spots, spots, spots.
Now I have a porcelain sink. I love it. I love cleaning it. I don’t love scrubbing until I feel I have had my workout for the day!
On to other things! I wish I lived close to you. I have about a bajillion and one questions to ask you.
Holly- Sadly she did NOT win…
Bidder: oskay paid $90 for it…
He should have friend like Mary’s instead.
I just finished THERE IS NO ME WITHOUT YOU last night. I will be starting it all over again tomorrow (or maybe today).
I have already asked my hubs if we can move to Ethiopia. His response…
…what would you eat there? So I am a picky eater!
THERE IS NO ME WITHOUT YOU is going to be his Thanksgiving read. I will be anxious to see what he thinks.
One of the families she talks about lives here. I would love to meet them sometime.
Much to ponder and pray about.
LOL What would you eat in Ethiopia. I sort of feel like that too. I’m not fond of spicy stuff generally.
However, the recipes Mary posted during the 30 days did sound interesting.
It went for $90? I meant to go check and I forgot.
Like Sarah said, who needs to win a contest with friends like us? 🙂
OOOH I was #100! Cool!
Was thinking of getting a porcelain farmers sink when we reno the kitchen, but now I”m not so sure..don’t think we have barkeepers friend in Canada.
And we are free!
hubby may ask at the end of the day. What did you do all day? And my answer will be, had the most fun making mary feel special.
BTW…have a good day
I suppose I could do something other than hang out here all day…..
But this is much more fun!
I know, I’m running back and forth doing the things I should be doing and then checking to see what’s happened while I was gone.
Can’t wait to see when mary checks and sees! 🙂
Just in 4 minutes ago…she’s on to us….and loving it!
So we still have 891 more to go! I like math. I also like Mary. Mary and math both start with the letter M. My name starts with the letter M too. What a great letter!
It’s still early. Lots of people will come contribute after they get their coffee.
That is a great tip!
I have also heard that Barkeeper’s Friend is the best for scrubbing your pots and pans.
Wow, I’m so going to try that. I have a tough time getting those marks out of my sink. Thanks for the tip.
Non non-stick pots and pan, of course.
I have heard before that it is easier to break dishes in a non-stainless sink. I guess you just get used to not flinging breakable dishes into the sink. 🙂
I have always had stainless steel. I bet barkeeper’s friend would help out a lot with that too! I’m going to get some.
Ah! Now I see one of Sarah’s comments saying that it makes stainless steel look like new. Now I really need to go get some.
I ddin’t get a chance to comment on that day–I think I was reading in Bloglines–but the dresses you bought for your girls are a-dor-able!
You guys!!!! This is just too incredibly sweetly hilarious!! After staying up way too late blogging last night, I got up bleary eyed a bit ago to discover that I had 108 emails. 108! In, like, 7 hours…I was sure I had been spammed. I didn’t even bother to read the mail. Just went straight into wordpress, prepared to delete like a madwoman for 10 minutes straight. In the rare times that it actually slips thru their spam filters, WordPress, unlike blogger, lets you one-click-delete spam, so it would not have been too terrible. But still, I did not want my readers to be stuck with reading a zillion (ahem) ‘enlargement’ tips, so I was prepped to work fast. Then I started reading the comments, and stopped twitching and started grinning and grinning and grinning. Went to Sarah’s blog and found the call to action. I am suspecting there must be others too…. Called hubby at work, tickled.
You guys are.so.sweet. And funny. And…..oh my goodness. When I got up this morning I was determined I would read my email before breakfast, them NOT touch the internet til my baby’s nap at 1pm. NOW HOW can i reasonably be expected to do that?
LOL
shaking my head
grinning
LOL
(By all means carry on)
With friends like this who needs an ebay auction?
Feeling very loved.
Mary
Oh! My! Word! 120 comments in response to sink cleanser!!
I couldn’t read them all so I might be repeating someone else.
Barkeepers Friend is the miracle powder for stainless steel too. I’ve had several stainless sinks over the years and that stuff is the ONLY thing that gets it shiny again and leaves no residue. It also doesn’t scratch that shiny surface if it’s a new sink.
Glad you liked the joke. It took awhile to gather all the e-mails. Sorry I didn’t make it in earlier being on the west coast and all
-Brian (Blogless for now)
I’m so glad that to hear that it’s good on stainless silver.
…cuz that’s what we’ve got.
Regarding comment #18. A corney keg is a small keg that were orriginally made for resaurants that mix their own soda.
But homebrewers have started using corney kegs to make their own beer since they are much smaller.
A corney keg can hold about 5 gallons.
Here…
goes….
…your…
…comment shower!!!!……
I wonder what the record for fastest time drinking 5 gallons of beer?
WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll bet if you drank 5 gallons of beer, you’d need barkeepers friend to clean your porcelain toilet.
And don’t forget that when you’re done with your corney kegs, make sure that you use barkeeps friend on it too.
Seriously, How fun!
Apearently I comment faster than wordpress would like me to. But I’m just so excited about Barkeepers friend.
I’l have to try this on my sink!
Oops! Typo in the above should read I’ll
Don’t you hate Wednesdays. I always feel so tired on Wednesdays.
BTW, Mary if I haven’t told you lately, I love reading your blog!
But then Thursday comes and I feel even more tierd.
Oh, and I pureed enough pumpkin last night to make 7 pies or batches of bread.
And I’m usually tierd on Fridays as well after a long week.
I then froze it and will make just one pie today!
And I’m usually not rested on Mondays since I can’t really seem to catch up on sleep on the weekends
I had forgotten that my Mom used to do that with “real” pumpkin so thanks for reminding me!
And Tuesdays aren’t much better.
So Wednesdays aren’t seeming so bad after all.
Anyway, guess I’d better check on my running rampant child! Thanks for the fun!
LOL Brian!
We’ve had barkeepers friend for about 6 years now under our sink. My husband uses it on the stainless steel sinks and for stainless steel pots and pans. I agree. That stuff is AWESOME.
I never thought of using it on porcelain sinks. Also starting to wonder about the bathtub! Hmmm. Thanks. Great post!
And yes, your blog totally rocks.
I’m SO a pumpkin-in-the-can girl. It would never occur to me to actually use the guts of a pumpkin.
Of course, I don’t usually buy real pumpkins, so at least I’m not being wasteful.
However, I do know that pumpkin grows a really pretty brilliant blue mold if you let a jack o’lantern sit on your windowsill for the whole month of October.
ok I’m in on this thing too
And then, the day after Halloween, you’re so disgusted with it that there’s nothing to do but open the window and shove it out.
I also have a procelain sink –
Did I mention I lived on the third floor in the dorms? Ah, college…. luckily there were a lot of bushes below us.
and I am very glad to hear about Barkeeper’s friend
I wonder if they sell it in canada?
because comet is definitely not working for me anymore
the only problem is my stains are yellow not black
do you think it would work on yellow stains Mary?
gee…I’m no where hear 30 comments but it is sunny up here and i have a kayak that is calling my name…
kelli I only did it because I had 10 growing in my garden! Waste no want not I guess! Now my pumpkin muffin loving husband wants me to do another one too…
near I meant…holy smokes – I just got a message that siad – You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.”
that was a first!
I’m garden stupid. I have grandiose ideas about one day having one, but I have NO CLUE how to get started.
OT – Mary could you share your schedule? Home school, chores, etc. I only have 3 and I feel like we accomplish nothing most days.
Jennifer
Seriously laughing here….ah. turning Mary’s blog into a chat room…how fun!
really, they tell you not to post so fast? I guess I’m typing more slowly or something. I haven’t gotten any of those.
I hope this doesn’t affect your bandwidth limit…I’ll check in again tonight – have fun everyone!! Maybe I’ll think of something brilliant comments by then
Dial up – its taking forever to get all the comments up!
I’m totally going to check back on this later! Seriously now I’m done for awhile!
well, heidi, good as barkeeper’s friend probably is, I have never used it, and certainly couldn’t think of 1000 things to say about it! 🙂 I think we have to get a little off task.
SO GLAD Mary doesn’t have comment verification enabled. That would make this much more difficult.
Agreed,,,,though I know my sink could use it!
170 comments?!?! You did it, didn’t you? You won those ebay comments! ; ) Barkeepers Friend is the only thing that gets the weird staining off of Emeril cookware as well. Good stuff.
Thanks Brian =)
I’ve always sworn by the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers.
Now I’ll need to try Barkeepers Friend, also.
Thanks so much for the tip!
I’ve never heard of the barkeepers friend, I’ll have to check it out
Although I have to admit, I don’t mind stainless steel sinks.
But, what I really want is the self-cleaning model.
And, I’m also thankful that I’m not anywhere near pregnant right now 😉
But, am very excited for those who are and hopeful that you’ll let me hold your wee one.
Because it keeps me from baby lust of my own.
Seriously laughing with tears!!
Brian, you are blogness for now, but you have me in stitches on your comments. YOU REALLY NEED TO START A BLOG!!!
Can you believe that someone paid $90 what we would give Mary for free?
Someone I e-mailed said that we might crash wordpress by doing this, but I think they are big enough.
I’m actually shocked at how fast it still loads almost 200 comments. Then again, I’m on a T4 in the lab.
Okay love all the hits here. 🙂 I lurk alot, but since we are making this blog so full of comments.
I want to say that I use Barkeepers friend. My husbands grandma gave it to me….
Grandma uses it on her counters also. 🙂 It is also great on your pots and pans that you use when camping. 🙂
And as someone said on a stainless steel sink. And my tub, and my counters in the bathroom. 🙂
hmm…now makes me wonder if it is safe on plastics? I can’t get the tea stains off of our tea jug, that we make ice tea in. 😦 I am sad about this because it is one of my few pampered chef buys.
Really? i haven’t had trouble with the tea pitcher staining. usually I use it for koolaid, but you’d think that would stain just as much.
Mary that you almost mass deleted! YIKES.
Good thing you read on before taking such action.
This is so much more fun to read then spammers, so I appreciate your concern.
So you know that since I started school I read you daily.
But I have never commented.
Does that make me a “lurker”?
Even if we email every night?
Anyway, I love this Idea!
So I am doing my part.
205! whoohoo! Love you.
I e-mailed 33 people asking them to add 30 posts. I’m glad so many other people are joing in.
It’s actually much harder to come up with 30 interesting things to say than I thought it would be.
Regarding the tea stains. You might try leaving it in the sun (with nothing inside). Sunlight will get rid of a lot of stains in plastics.
Did you know that plastics really come from the sun? Since they are a product of petroleum (oil), and oil was created by rotting plant life, plastic came from the sun.
That doesn’t make it good for you though. There’s a lot of toxic chemicals that can leach out of plastic into the liquid inside them.
But then again the sun isn’t all that good for you either. It’s all about the amount you consume.
I believe that you can die from eating to many tomatoes.
But I’d probably barf first.
And I’d use the Barkeepers friend to clean it up (trying to stay on topic here).
Timer is going off…back to my experiment.
My 8 yr old would agree about dying from eating too many tomatoes, Brian.
Mary
Great suggestion! :o)
Sunlight does take the color out of plastics, like Little Tikes equipment and stuff, so yeah, that might work.
Oh, and eldest daughter, yes, that makes you a lurker. 🙂 But it’s okay. Now you have de-lurked.
You ARE insanely popular!! Love you and all you share on your blog. Keep up the good work!
Can I join in from the UK too??!
There is NO Barkeepers friend here. Sigh
I will have to have an inferior sink
I love your blog. Thanks for commenting on mine yesterday after I linked yours
wow, lots of comments here
Hi, Mary!
Hope you reach 1000 comments!
Just doing my part to help.
I just got a message that told me I’m posting comments too quickly.
I’m trying.
to slow down, that is. That’s what it said, “Slow down.”
I’ve never had a blog tell me what to do before. Weird.
I’m not really sure what to do with that. Blogs can be bossy.
Kelli said we might shut down WordPress…I hope that doesn’t happen!
Have a great day, Mary!
What fun – I’ll play too. And, just to stay relevant here, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Barkeeper’s Friend… I’ll have to watch for it.
I like Jen’s idea…
…to comment endlessly….
….and see if we can actually get you…
…to a thousand comments….
….because I really can’t think of anyone…
…who deserves them more…
…than Mary, Mom to Many.
By the way, Comet does the same thing for me. (Clean a sink, not leave comments…)
I don’t blog but love yours and your ethiopia blog. We are just starting our home study to adopt with AAI from ethiopia and I love your insight to parenting and all of it! Thanks.
carol
I’m back, because it’s been an hour or so.. just checking in. And off to leave a comment for Shannon, since she’s before me.
Funny, I’m back to and I did add Barkeepers friend to my grocery list! Great idea Mary, off to “meet” kelli in the mirror!
When my OH and I got married he had it and I threw it out, he was so devestated. I have since grown to love it and do find that it works on everything it is similar to duck tape!
Okay, I’m in…. I’ve spent way too much time on the computer and I should be off cleaning my sink…
…with barkeepers friend of course.
I like this idea.
Of commmenting others that is.
commenting, I can’t spell somedays
Anyway, off to see Lilly.
Because everyone should get comments.
I think this is spam if it has nothing to do with the post topic.
I was a little hesitant to join into the 1000 comments thing at first…
Am I right?
Now that I see that there are already over 250, I am not worried that this is just a hoax
Barkeeper Friend is good stuff.
There, now I am with topic.
No to mention that it must be OK if your daughter has joined in so many times
She’s right that we’re all spamming you, but it’s spam of the happiest kind
By the way, my step-mom cleans houses for a lviving, and she has sworn by Barkeepers Friend for years! It s the best!!!
You know what’s kind of sad….I didn’t even read your post before I started commenting because I was so worried about the “1000 Comment” thing. I thin I will read it, and see what else I might have to say. 8^)
I keep coming back to check the tally…
comments, comments, i love them! i long for them! i want my little unknown corner of the blogging world to be exposed, and i want people to tell me what they think!! 🙂
You know waht just occurred to me….I have lived in a house with a porcelain sink for over a year now. Even though I know about Barkeeper’s Friend, I have not bought it yet. It is on my grocery list now!
This comment thing is cracking me up. I feel like we are harrassing you, but really it is a nice thing. I hope you’re enjoying it as much as we are. 8^)
ooops, thanks mary. do you think you’ll hit 1000?
I hope she hits 1000 Carrie!!!!!!!!
commenting again and checking to see how many. Off to Blaine’s blog now!
Way back at the beginning of the comments, Meredith mentioned Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. They really are amazing….
oh, I’l have to try that because softscrub doesn’t do anything for them.
At our old house, we had 30 year old linoleum. It was dingy and nasty looking. Those Mr. Clean things did wonders!!! The linoleum looked brand new. We sold the house for 3 1/2 times what we bought it for 7 years before. Yippee!!
If Carrie wants comments, then she might need to leave a link. I can’t comment if I don’t know where she lives!
BTW, Mary, this is a wonderful reward for you after your 30 days of nothing. This day definitely counts as a “something.” Like Shannon said, I can think of no one more deserving.
Love BKF, too. I need to get some to keep our stainless steel sink just that. . . stainless.
Kelli in the Mirror had a great plan. Although, instead of just saying you would need a stainless steel fridge to match the sink, I think you should go for the works. Stove/oven, dishwasher, vent hood, etc… I bet your hubby might even offer to scrub the porcelain sink himself. 8^)
My mom used to use it when I was a wee girl, and I forgot about it. We also used another product called Bon Ami that is about the same thing.
I wonder if they still make Bon Ami? I will go check and find out.
Still make it at http://www.bonami.com. I liked it because it is chlorine free and safe for around kids.
I wouldn’t think of it as spam. Just off-topic comments. We’re not trying to get you to buy anything or enlarge anything or grow more hair. Now THAT’s spam. 🙂
Comments that are off-topic, I would think are okay. Hopefully appreciated. 🙂
Knowing your sweeties, it is nice to have something kid-friendly to clean with.
I think BKF is the same way. I’ll go check and be back in a minute. This is fun!
BKF is a totally different product from Bon Ami, but I saw that you could get an industrial sized drum of it. Maybe that’s what they’ll send you for giving them such great publicity at their site today.
Peach, good to know about bon ami. I see it in the store sometimes but am hesitant to break out of my cleaning rut.
But I am going to go get me some barkeeper’s friend.
I kinda feel like a stalker. Hmmm…. interesting.
I would love to see how much their traffic will increase over the next 48 hours!
Now the person above me is well ME! Just kidding. I get the idea.
Tho’ it probably won’t equal your site, Mary.
Helping you get to 300 at least . . .
Don’t worry, you don’t have to respond personally to all of your commenters today!!
Ew Sarah!!! Puke on the outside of the vehicle. I know there is an incredible shower cleaner that did an amazing job on the water spots on the outside of my car. I can’t remember the name, but I know you can get it at Smart and Final. It did no damage to the paint and shine either.
Have a great time enjoying the love, Mary. I think it would be cool to make it into double digits on comments again . . . this is fabulous!
I’m off to find out what my kids have been up to while I’ve been compulsively commenting at your site . . .
Quiet is never good when associated with children! TTFN!!!
Where we live in Southern California, we get the benefit of oranges, grapefruits and lemons as well as apples. Counting our blessings.
I”m always looking for something great like this. Thanks!
So, you are personally commenting — bless your precious heart!! Your fingers will definitely get tired if you keep this up. : ) Thanks for stoppin’ by!
Again . . . TTFN!
great idea re other blogs
I want to see 300
I’ll be 300 with the cream on the frosting, I love that!
getting great messages!
Here’s a comment for you. Love reading your blog Mary!
Wow, I have comment envy…I have never heard of barkeepers friend, but I have a stainless steel sink and like it very much…
Ok, so twice now I’ve just clicked on the links to the last persons blog and not commented here so I guess I’d better put in on last one before I get on with my afternoon! Fun.
O after hearing all the raves on BKF all morning…
I went to Wal-Mart and bought some!!!
I paid $1.83 for 21 ounces…of what appears to be cleaning GOLD
I rode with my mom to Wal-Mart and she was so moved by the post; that she bought some too.
Do you hear this…PEOPLE WITH BAR KEEPER”S FRIEND…this post has moved people to buy your product!
Surely you feel moved to send Mary, free product!
Oh Yeah, I posted a picture of me with my new friend…BKF on my blog.
My almost three year old, took the picture for me.
Seeing that there is more than one laungage on the can, I believe this product is available in more nations than the United States.
Fact from the can:
Best Since 1882
Our great-great grandparents probably used this stuff

stainless steel cookware,
This is completely insane.
So I guess I’ll have to join in.
fiberglass bathing units,
And do my part…
ceramic cooktops,
…to get you to 1000.
Ha! I’m taking turns with Sarah.
And WordPress just told me I’m commenting too quickly. SLOW DOWN it says.
Pah!
So is it possible to have your day both ‘made’ and ruined by the same thing? Because I have been grinning the ENTIRE day long, but I am also currently sitting next to the computer in my PJ pants that the baby peed on 5 minutes ago. But still here I sit , damp, but too enthralled by the comments rolling in to move.
At least I did get school done today. And a game of Uno played with the 4 year old. And two meals fed to 7 kids. But nothing– and I mean nothing– else!!
Off to get cleaned up before hubby comes home and disowns me for my slovenly ways!!
stainless steel sinks,
We have already established it…
And appartently according to the can certain companies recommend this product for just that.
Those brew guys knew what they were talking about!
Hey, feeding 7 kids 2 meals seems like more then I got done today!! Not a waste!! I still cannot get over how many comments here..but your blog is great, so that is why!!
Oh Mary, you deserve a day of slothing…and BKF will help when your ready to clean up.
Continueing on in its recommendations,
ceramic cookware
quality cookware
what exactly is QUALITY cookware?
I would not know
cooking utensils
plumbing fixtures,
This stuff is so amazing…its even good for your plumbing!
windows and doors,
home products.
This seems like such a broad word to use. Recommended by Winstar for that one, so what would that mean?
Those above recommendations were on a small margin on the side of the can. The real direction now follow.
Over here in England stainless steel sinks are soooo popular (I have one). Drives me nuts trying to keep it clean
I use Bar Keepers Friend too. My mother in law recommended it to me.
By the way, I am delurking to comment here.
Feeling very brave today.
But wanted to let you know that I love your blog. Eight children, so cool!
Sprinkle BFK on a thouroughly wet cloth and rub gently. If applying BKF directly to metal, porcelain or plastic make certain surface is wet- then rub gently until rust or discoloration disappears. Rinse.
Must go and walk dogs, 10pm over here at the moment.
Will stop by tomorrow to see how many comments you get. Fingers crossed for your 1,000. Great idea Sarah!
Interesting note:
BKF may discolor colored grout.

Kaje- It was Brian’s idea…
Thanks for delurking and joining in on the fun.
Another Ewwww…brilliant blue mold in the jack-o-lantern. I’m getting an education just from reading all these comments.
On the pumpkin subject, one of the saddest sights to me, is the morning after Halloween, when poeple have smashed jack-o-lanterns in the street. Why?!
Comment verification would be murder during this little campaign. Thanks for being so trusting, Mary. 8^)
Oh, I don’t even have to be all that trusting– WordPress has a dynamite BUILT-IN spam filter that catches most stuff, without people even having to do word verification. I love wordpress.
Thanks for coming up with this idea Brian. I was a little hesitant at first, but it has turned into lots of fun. Good job!!!
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Barkeeper’s Friend. I should get some and try it out. I hope you hit 1000!
I think Brian should start a blog. Then we could all return the favor someday.
I am going to go try this stuff out…bb to report.
WordPress seems pretty cool, what with the built in spam filters and stuff…not like blogger at all!! Maybe one day I will move on over…when I have time to figure it all out!
and, btw, this is lots of fun to watch!
Who knew that recommending Barkeeper’s Friend would bring up so many discussions about barf? First morning sickness, and not tomatoes. Yuck!
Oh, this is fun!
I’m game.
I love Barkeeper’s Friend!
A couple of month’s ago, we got a new refrigerator…
…it had only been in our house for about 45 minutes…
…when I walked into the kitchen to see that…
…my 3 year old had had art class on my new fridge.
Art class with PERMANENT MARKERS!!!
Barkeeper’s Friend was the only thing that worked on getting all of the marker off.
Good thinking Peach…Bon Ami is a really good product too. I totally forgot about it.
So, that day Barkeeper’s Friend was my BEST friend.
Just felt I had to add to all the comments! You’re lucky- the most I’ve ever gotten is five!
Rubbing alcohol takes permanent marker off of things too. Our 6, 6 and 4 year olds drew pictures on linoleum tile in our old house with permanent marker. Thank God I had heard about the rubbing alcohol thing at the time. Now I know to try my BKF next time too.
Since everyone’s commenting today, I’ll just say that I read your blog daily. I’m a 22-year-old single female who’s nowhere near the point of actually having kids, but I know that when I do I plan on adopting.
I also wanted to tell you that your travel story website inspired my sister and me to try Ethiopian food last year and we absolutely LOVE it! I live in New York City and actually just moved to an apartment half a block from an Ethiopian restaurant, which is so fabulous. I’m a vegetarian and they have so many options for me. Thanks for bringing such delicious food into my life!
And thanks for the wonderful daily blog posts! I always love seeing your beautiful kids and hearing your thoughts.
– Amy in NY
I have to say I am NOT disappointed.
It worked very well.
I have received 12 comments on my blog today because of posting these comments. 3 from Mary herself. Thanks for the blessings Mary!
My faucets are the shiniest they have EVER been!
Nicki,
LOUD GASP-
Permanant marker, It would have been my best friend as well.
wow, Mary. You must have scored high on the scale for every question on that quiz on my blog. You hide your crunchy well.
I was so confused. I thought you had a lot of crazyy people posting one liners today! I get it now!!!
Hahaha! Man, I’m slow today!
I just bought soft scrub, but I’l look for your product next time.
BKF – we moved into a new house, and the guy who came to get the black marks from the builders off the bottom of our porcelain tub says that’s what he uses! (so you can use it on your tub . . . though perhaps only for scuff marks, etc.)
!t is 10.45pm in England and i keep coming back to see what the total is.
So help me, i may have to get up at 3am as well
Also, I noticed Mindy’s comment about the chip in her sink. You can buy kits to repair porcelain tubs, sinks, etc. online. Hubby bought one for about $25 to repair our tub. It took a bit of his time and had some fairly intimidating directions . . . but it was easy, and the repair looks GREAT. You would never notice it had been repaired unless you knew and were looking for the spot! There are lots of companies who sell porcelain repair kits; look for one that color matches your brand of sink.
Blessings!
Never heard of Barkeeper’s Friend but I will definately check into it! I have a stainless steel sink but my parents have a porcelain one full of black marks. I’ll have to surprise them and clean it up!
Fun stuff! 1,000 comments, here we come!
I’ll play! very good tip though and I’ll be looking for that stuff! now off to comment on MamaChristy!
Such a great idea, and so many smiles
What the heck???? I’m number 384????? How in the world did you get so many comments????? More importantly, does #384 get a prize?
Thanks for the tip. I have a proc. sink too and can’t get those stains off. I’ll get that next time I’m out. 🙂
I mean does 385 get a prize…
Blogless Brian is no longer blogless. Please don’t leave me more than one comment. It was funny once….to someone else.
Wooden Porch see:
http://momteacherfriend.blogspot.com/2006/10/oh-wont-you-help.html
I’d be interested to know what the longest span between comments was here today. A few minutes I’m guessing?
I wish someone in your family would have taken a picture with your new camera of you when you saw all the comments.
Back from another BKF experiement…
My dear hubby has placed his shaving cream cans in our fiberglass shower…and left it with circle rust marks…
OH….I see how it is! Brian only wants to harrass other people. Ha! Ha! Glad you joined the blogosphere Brian. 8^)
Water, add BKF and presto!
THEY ARE NO MORE!!!!
The can says…Removes Rust
They are speaking the truth there folks.
The rust removal is impressive. We have tried a ton of things for the rings from my daughter’s shaving cream can. This is REALLY good to know!
You are almost to #400 Mary. Holy Smokes!!!!
The ironic thing about Blaine thinking this was a joke when I e-mailed her is that we know each other IRL, but I don’t think she knows the e-mail address I e-mailed her from.
Sorry you missed the potluck on Saturday.
I’m going to keep commenting at least until you get to #400. Of course, I will be back later too. 8^)
I wat to be #400!!
I got it! I got it!! Yippee!!!!!!
I know something wonderful and easy to take rust off. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I keep one in the shower now as we have well water with lots of rust. I have got every bit off with it!
Just adding to your huge list of comments today. I’ll have to look for that! I love the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers–they remove just about anything from anything!!!
Wow, I think this is the most comments I have seen.
You really gonna go for the 1000, are ya?
This makes me really glad for that Control Key–End feature on the keyboard. Scrolling down takes time I ain’t got.
I do love Barkeeper’s Friend. It’s what I use since I can’t find Bon Ami cleanser anymore.
Now I’m off to Sarah’s place. I think I was a lurker there before, but I’ll make sure to Comment today.
I wondered if you were THAT Brian when I read your comment about it being time to go check on your experiment. How fun to know a blog friend IRL.
We were bummed about mssing the potluck last weekend too. My Hubby’s parents are dealing with some health issues right now. That took precedent. We look forward to the next one.
In response to 389…
There was a 32 minute lapse between comments 215 &216 AND again between 218 & 219
The longest was first thiing this morning before the west coast was awake and that was 49 minutes.
Mindy this should be up your alley with all that math and numbers and stuff.
Note to self: write down the last comment you read in order to not spend 5 minutes trying to find your place.
Open apple-down does the same thing on Macs. Good tip.
This is funny! For a while I was convinced you actually won that ebay auction!
I guess I will have to try Barkeeper’s Friend!
Shana
#154- Kelli,
So that was one month to get the desired pretty brillant blue?
Sounds like a cool science experiement!
When I began writing, Sarah was the name above mine.
By the time I hit the Submit key, there were a bunch more names published!
I left a comment for Wendy and for Sarah–it seems to be a share the fun idea.
Thanks Sarah…I was just coming back to check but I had to get my pie in the oven! Pretty cool that there’s been this much activity over BKF. Which if it gets those rings off the shower it’s gold in my book.
It only took me 10 minutes to figure out how to add a rule to send all the comments (via e-mail) to a seperate mail folder. It’s in preferences for all you Mac users.
Red worms love rotten pumpkins:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/the_worm_bin/
Blue mold is your friend. And if you get some on your counter. Clean it up with BKF.
just helping you reeach that 1000 goal!
Wait I’m confused, is this a porcelain sink in the bathroom or kitchen?
In Australia we have these sponges called Magic Erasers made by Chux that clean EVERYTHING – wall scuffs, sweet chilli sauce walked into beige carpet, permanent marker on the wall, soap scum in the shower, biro on the favourite doll – everything. Just wet and wipe – no soap required.
They come in tiny packs of 8 or 1 big one for about $5 Australian which I think is about $3.70 in US.
Right it is nearly midnight here. I will be back in the morning!
Ok, now I know if I ever get my worm composting bin up and going I can throw in my rotten pumpkins…Thanks Brian!
Magic Erasers…
I use these and have been amazed by them. A year and a half ago my dear sweet daughter and my neice covered my daughters room in marker. Magic Erase got most of it out. There is only a trace of red left. If i had BKF, I bet it would have gotten it all. I tried it a few moments ago and it contributed to its removal but I can still see a trace.
Verdict- Magic Erase is great but BKF is even better.
I love Magic Erasers too, they are great for furniture cleaning!! We used them on a white, small bookself that had years of dirt on it, it looked almost new after!!
ok – it’s 8:05 on the east coast
and i’m in bed with my laptop
cuase i’m very tired
cause i went kayaking today
and the wind wass quite high
but it was sunny
and it’s oct
so there won’t be too many more kayking days since
i live in Canada
and the water tneds to freeze up here in the winter
excuse me…tends
and it’s pretty hard to kayak when the water is frozen –
we go do something else then
like skating
or sledding
wow
or hockey which I don’t play personally but I have 5 kids
pretty close
who have all played it
to 500 comments here… 1/2 way to 1000!
but this year
darn wordpress won’t let me comment as fast as i’d like
we only have 1 left at home
*sniff*
so there will not be as much driving around to different
hockey tournaments
ok – i may be the very uck one who
oops lucky
one to hit
the 450 mark – YAY I did it!
I saw your comment over at Holy Mama’s, so I hustled on over.
I’ll have to try the barkeeper’s friend. My mom swears by it, but I’ve had stainless sinks and a grey granite sink. It’s been about 6 years since I had a porcelain sink… until now. Like I said, I’ll have to try it. Here’s my secret for the hard stains: I take paper towels and line the sink. Then I pour bleach on the whole thing and let it sit. The paper towels keep the bleach in contact with the sink. After 10 minutes, I remove the towels and scrub it down. Works every time.
Oh, and in support of your 1000 comments quest, I will be going and visiting Meagan now. Actually, you can play this exact game every weekend at Micheleagnew.com every weekend. she calls it the Weekend Meet-n-greet and lots of people play. I would love to see a Christian blog version start up!
Thanks Mary for the comment about the yellow stains – I will try it if I can find that cleaner up here.
Do you get all your comments in your e-mail in box as well?
Or maybe I’ll get it online if it is allowed across the border
I think I’ll go get Islandsparrow, too, since they got in ahead of me…
This must be a real pain if that’s the case.
Blong Girl has two https in her URL. Firefox doesn’t like that.
I’m such a good girl – I asctually commented over 30 times.
Now to earn extra brownie points I’m going over to bilologyfool’s place and comment there.
You West Coast bloggers are going to have to take over and see if we can give Mary her 1000 comments!!!
how are you guys commenting so fast?
wordpress keeps yelling at me
telling me to slow down like some kind of hall monitor or something….i mean okay I guess maybe if I just type longer comments I’ll naturally have a longer pause in between and then maybe WordPress will stop trying to go all authoritarian on me…
Has anyone figured out how fast you can comment?
Oh I just figured out that this comment blitz is all biologyfool’s idea – and today is the very first day of her blog! I’m going over to say hello!
I”ve been thinking about doing one of these Works for Me Wednesday things….hmm but the problem is I’m having blog block…can’t think of a thing that works for me at this particular moment…
Blond girls’ blog (don’t follow the link in her name):
http://blondgirlrants.blogspot.com/
I’m a guy. Guys read blogs too.
I seem to be able to go pretty fast
still here
I have been attempting to visit everyone who coments today and here is what I notice.
Diversity…I love it!!!
From all over the world.
want to see 500
and if you hit the end key you don’t have to scroll down so that saves time
Mary you have some great folks who freaquent your blog and/or joined today by word of mouth.
sorry biologyfool….my apologies
Linds you said good night a bit ago!! LOL
of course guys read blogs
I know, Sarah. You try leaving….
Not a problem.
and Mary you should just head on over to http://www.thiswomanswork.com if you want to find out how to get some free products…
I wonder how many of the 33 people I e-mailed made it over here?
And how many of them got their 30 comments in.
I’ll bet some of them had my e-mail go to their SPAM box.
And they missed all the fun.
It apears that 1 comment a minute is not fast enough to get the “slow down” message.
But sometimes I think we all need to slow down a little.
#472-Sarah– I love the diversity too. It is awesome.
But seriously, you guys. I have spent the ENTIRE day smiling! This is just too fun.
Except my email inbox is getting very full.
May need to do something about that soon…
I also need to come up with dinner soon….hamburger enchiladas, I think
I really need to get to get a quick experiment set up to run overnight before I go home.
But it would be fun to get the 500th post.
Does anyone know if that clock is right?
Mine is 4 minutes earlier.
Sarah, Yes, it was just about a month. We bought the pumpkin in the first few days of October and carved it, and my roommate absolutely refused to throw it out before Halloween. I didn’t really mean to throw it out the window, but it was so squishy and gross we couldn’t pick it up. 🙂
Well actually it’s 56 minutes later.
Because I’m on the west coast.
Can you set the clock on your blog?
I’ll probably set mine to Ethiopian time just to confuse people.
Wow, this seems like alot of fun!
They start their day at 6:00, so at day break it’s 1:00
OO I almost made 500!
Awesome tip! I have those scratch marks in my sink, and thought I’d have to get my sink resurfaces to get them out. Thanks for the advice. I’ll be looking for barkeeper’s friend AND the Mr. Clean sponges, depending on which one I can find locally. [:-)
OOOO I did, I did, I did!!
Grrrrr…..got the slow down. message and couldn’t get the 500th.
I loved the post on canning too, Mary. I’ve been there, done that, but not this year – Thank God! Too busy trying to get ready for our little Ethiopian girl to join the family. Not that I’ve heard anything recently ……. But today I am organizing closets and have re-packed my huge “orphanage donations” bin, which now weighs almost more than I can haul up the stairs. (I know that because I took it out of my boys’ newly-reorganized closet and put it up in my in-the-process-of-getting-organized closet.) Hmmmm….. seems like I heard something about a luggage weight restriction on international flights….. we’ll see. [:-)
Wow, who knew cleaner were such a hot topic! 🙂
I have not commented here for a long time, Mary, but I’ll say congratulations a bit early on your 1000 comments!
So, CONGRATULATIONS!!
And I wish you all God’s best!
Oh, and I love your owl ratings for comments. I may have to try that on my blog!!
And I have been thinking about your contest. What could it be??
The clock is under options in the dashboard for all you wordpress.com people.
And lastly, since I am off to care group, I hope you had a great day reading all of your comments!!
You ARE one of the luckiest women!!!!
I’m on my way to comment at onehopesixfutures!
Fun!
Diane
This is a lot of hard work getting to 1000 post. I can’t immagine it would be worth $90.
But maybe he had it automated or something.
I think Mary should stop e-mailing us responses to our questions and post them in the comments.
But then again, I made my bed, I should have to sleep in it.
I’ve got dial up at home, so I’m not sure I’ll be contributing much more.
Perhaps we won’t pass 1000 tonight and I’ll get a shot at it tomorrow.
I’ve got 40 hits on my blog today. I think I picked a good day to go live.
I think I’ll wait till I have more posts before I tell my adoption agency group about it.
I thought about posting a Works for me Wed. about how to get people to write comments on someone else’s blog.
woo hoo mary!!!!
But then I decided that it would be more productive for me to just keep writing here.
Ok I just had to join in the fun. Imagine my daughter’s glee when we spotted BKF in Wal-Mart!! We both bought some and will be conducting our own experiments with this product. Does it work on dogs left in the rain while shopping at Wal-Mart?? lol
Brian- I think you choose a most excellant day to go live!
Is that the truth of the matter. It was your own plublicity stunt? LOL
Hi Mary,
Maybe I missed something, but why in the world are there 525 comments about porcelain? Wow, I need to figure this out. Just thought I better comment too, since really, literally, “everyone is doing it.”
Hi MOM!!!
Oh please don’t try it on the dogs! It has strick warnings on keeping out of reach of children and we both know they are now your “children.”
#526
Laughing so hard…
everyone indeed is doing it!
12 hours in and we have 529…what will it be at 24 hours?
esperando, Brian after reading my ebay post the other day got the idea that all y’all should give me 1000 comments for free. I have been laughing my head off all day watching the comments pour in. I cannot believe it.
yeah, it crossed my mind also that Brian picked an excellent day to start his blog…not that I’m complaining or anything. hehe
brian, I have dialup too…
Are you serious Mary? Dial-up?!
Your phone must have been off the hook all day!
Wow, that is cool. I know Brian from our Yahoo group. Although he doesn’t know me…. he he hehehehe. I keep quiet over there.
Thanks for commenting on my comment Sarah!
Waiting for Iyasu
Seriously Mary, if you have dialup… wow. I hope you have a cell phone handy too. 🙂 Just so people can get through.
Wandered here from another blog. 🙂 Happy to join in on the game. Quite like your blog, too. And you’re already at 500+ comments! Crazy, isn’t it?
This is amazing! I just to Avery to come over. Let’s see if he will.
I meant “told.”
I LOVE Bar Keepers Friend, for the same reason you do!
I think you could use it just about anywhere.
I also use it in the shower.
Kelli in the mirror sent me over here.
Good luck with all your posts!
ADDING ANOTHER COMMENT FOR YOU!
Supper done here…I’m back.
Yeah, Sarah, and Kelli, I have dialup. But I also have a second phone line….I justify it since I have the part-time gig writing for adoption.com
But it is just as handy for blog surfing as for actually writing on my Ethiopia blog….hehe
I googled barkeeper’s friend again and I thought it was pretty funny. I came across this…
http://livinginmymind.blogspot.com/2006/04/im-not-bar-keeperbut-its-my-friend-too.html
It is our very own nicki from comments 357-367
Yeah, I saw that she posted about it awhile back!
Mary, long time no see! I’ve been busy at the preschool and haven’t had much computer time. Since you are the author of the comment above me, I’ll jump up one more and talk at Sarah.
Topping 500 comments means that there are sprinkles on that frosting ;-)Chrissy
This is absolutely the greatest stuff! I give cans of it away to friends and family just to convince them to try it and they all become fans. It’s great for countertops, glass cooktops, corian, sinks, copper pots, lots of stuff. Good tip.
wow, 548?
plus one more comment
plus one more comment, it won’t let me duplicate my messges! grr 😉
Oh, I’m famous!
Hee!
du…du…du…another one’s bites the dust
…another one bites the dust…
and another one gone…
…and another one gone…
…another one bites the dust!
I haven’t heard that song forever, but it came to mind as I was going through these comments.
Whenever I do hear it though, it reminds me of when I was a teen.
I had a pretty serious comment streak going earlier, but alas…..
They use to play it at the rollerskating rink.
My internet conked out for a while.
Bummer!!!!!!
WordPress finally yelled at me about posted too fast for the first time. Yeah for me!
I am so glad to see so many familiar names, and some not so familiar, stopping by to comment today.
Wow…566 comments? That is amazing…
This has been a lot of fun to take part in. We should randomly pick someone to bless this way every so often. How great would it be to be the one?!
Mary I am most interested in your stats for today.
How many page loads did you have?
570-That is a good idea blaine.
I wonder when Mary will actually cross the 1000 mark? The first comment came in 15 hours ago, and we are almost to 600 now. There’s a pretty good chance the 100 could happen in a 24 hour period. That’s incredible!!!
Thanks Sarah. 8^)
This
Have you had any inquiries for your address from BKF?
I truly think they should be sending you some free product. Seriously!
is
I think October 11th should be considered Bar Keeper’s Friend Awareness Day!
addicting!
I was totally stumped on what to have for dinner tonight.
I ended up making a Pasta Primavera recipe off the back of a box a Garlic Alfredo Noodle-roni.
You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.
It was actually really good!
Okay. I’ll slow down.
Even my picky eaters gobbled it down.
THAT is truly amazing!!!!
Soon we can say good morning to Linds…
I may be sleeping so this one is for you Linds….good morning. Did you sleep well? Did you ever go to sleep…ha!
I just got the WordPress message again too, Nicki.
I am trying to leave, but this really has been a blast today!
Don’t they know we are on a mission?!
Must sleep, must stop commenting.
Continue on blogosphere…
Press on toward the goal!
Good Night, Sarah….8^)
I can imagine the headlines now.
I wonder how many comments I have left so far. I will have to go up and count. Be back soon….
Server for WordPress malfunctions
Oh too close to 600 to go to bed now…
Comments on Barkeeper’s Friend to blame.
I am at 82 comments heehee
Good night!
Be blessed Mary!
I should be reading my book for my bible study tomorrow morning.
You are insanely popular!
You are also, funny, witty, thought provoking…
Hi Mrs. Owl!
Cool idea…..and we have a porcelain on cast iron sink to install as soon as my BIL can come help us! (they got it for us at a salvage sales place) Thanks for the tip!
Christie
But.
Practical, honest, caring, sincere…
I.
Can’t. Stop. Posting.
an amazing mother and a fantastic writer
I read you because you offer such diversity in your thoughts
This is my 48th comment. Sarah must have us all beat though. Great job, Sarah!
You break away lines of nationality…
I agree with all that Sarah just said…wrote…typed…whatever.
I love the smile in your profile picture…it is contagious.
What about comment #666? Maybe we can try to leave it blank or something. Is that too superstitious?
I can still remember the night I read your ‘fingerprints’ story.
If I could come pick your weeds from your garden and seep up some wisdom in an afternoon visit. I would.
I sobbed uncontrollably.
Been doing some calculating,
I love that you have learned cultural foods of Ethiopia and Korea.
In the 910 minutes since the first comment,
I posted her smile on my blog.
http://5mcckids.blogspot.com/2006/10/lots-of-comments.html
I love it too. 8^)
you have gotten 620 comments
I am a see-it do it learner. I can read a recipe but new foods turn out best if I see them prepared before I attempt to make them.
I would like to try some of your recipes though.
Maybe one day I shall!
Wow, over 600 since I’ve been gone. Amazing… and I agree with you Nikki this is SO addicting!
That turns into a comment every minute and 50 seconds
All day long!
It reminded me so much of what my life is like right now.
I have been watching this thing all day.
Now we see the concrete results of Mary’s homeschooling. Great calculating, Eldest Daughter!
Wow over half way there =)
In between classes of course.
I love it!
welcome back eldest daughter!
That is an amazing figure!
I have never ever even imagined numbers so high on a blog.
That is so crazy…eldest!
Mary keeps telling us that she has been smiling all day. How could she not with all that love pouring in through her computer every couple minutes. Very cool!
I pray that one day, I’ll be holding the child that I long for in my arms.
Or children. 🙂 Ya never know, huh?
Nicki are you trying to make us cry?!
I pray that for you too, Nicki.
Cause Nicki that post you wrote awhile back made me weepy!
Did I mention I need to go to bed?
Plus I pray that you will have that too…
Go to bed,Sarah!!!!! 8^)
Nicki, You have three, are you longing to adopt??
‘Night Sarah…I’m going to be off soon too.
HOLY COW.
That’s it. Just “HOLY COW.”
But now I’m thinking she’s almost half way to 700 might as well stay up for that!
Aw, Heidi sweetie, you are just too precious! You are in my prayers too. ((Hugs))
LOL- When do we finally go?
LOL…I don’t know. Now that my kiddo’s in bed not much is stopping me…
…from sitting here endlessly!
Thanks Nicki…so sweet.
This comment is my 101…so I shall say good night. Those on the east coast and other parts of the world. Enjoy the remainder of the “day”
Now we are down to a comment every minute and 40 seconds.
I just updated the post on my blog to reflect the insane amount of activity that is happening over here.
Sarah, yes I want to adopt. My husband doesn’t feel the same though, right now. However, each day he leans more and more closer to it. I’m just being patient and waiting on the Lord. He will bring a child to us through adoption, if and when, it is time.
Just wanted to let you know I stumbled across your blog during your 30 days of nothing – what a great experiment! I linked to you from one of my blog posts – you must have found it because you commented!! (Thanks…my blog is rather new so I get very few commenters). I can’t believe how many comments you got today! WOW! I think I’ll take your advice and check out the person before my comment and go visit them!! =)
So much fun!!!
Oh, how fun eldest! You are figuring it out “live” …
Mary has brought me such joy and hope through her blog.
The official start of the day was 5:05am MST..so with 8 1/2 hours remaining I am confident this post can make it…
That is a tough place to be, Nicki……Waiting. May the peace of the Lord be with you as you wait.
Okay, I’m in and now I’m off to Heidi’s spot. BTW your boy sounds very sweet….like frosting.
……..
OK, so we managed to skip the BAD number. It’s safe to comment again. 8^)
Thanks Blaine. 🙂
You guys are nuts! I need to go get ready to teach tomorrow. This is too addicting.
Well, I thought we did. I tried.
I’ve written here tonight, more than I have written on my own blog in the last two weeks!
Nicki-
We have friends who the wife wanted to adopt. It was not yet the time, then three years later, the husband approached her about. Saying that it was time. They now have a beautiful daughter from China. All in His time.
dang i was going for comment 666
i’ll come back later to see if i can get 1000 or 777
Indeed. His timing is perfect. Always. I find peace in that. Thank you for the encouraging words. 🙂
I just got a personal comment from Eldest Daughter! Now I feel special!!! 8^)
Here is a screenshot of my stats page for the last week, including the incredible 2400 page views I had today (so far!)
insane.
you people are insane.
in the nicest sort of way
Avery, you are too funny!!!
I look forward to hearing more from you later.
THAT is incredible Mary!!!
Me too, Blaine! LOL!
I didn’t realize we were supposed to be visiting the person above us too. Ooops. Better do some blog hoppin!
I saw that comment you got Blaine! I posted one after her and I’ll be back to visit your site more.
one comment per minute 37 seconds.
oops, that is my stats for the past MONTH. That other peak is the day I won the camera and I got a zillion hits from people visiting from Spunkyhomeschool. I thought THAT was a HUGE day. But today beats it by FAR.
Aw, she (eldest daughter) gave me one too…how fun! Thanks!
I commented waaaaay back around 260 or so. I had no idea it would go so far. Incredible!!
I’m so excited about the opportunity this have given all of us to stop by new blogs and gain new readers for our own.
I don’t write specifically for the comments, but they definitely encourage me too keep going.
Thanks for stopping by everyone!
Ok, so my husband is now BEGGING me to make whipped cream so we can eat the pumpkin pie that I made today…thanks to the ever terrific and wonderful inspiration of a homemaker Mary. I will be back though!
That stat peak is eye-popping!
Did your kids find the vice grips? LOL
I don’t know anyone who hasn’t got a stainless steel sink in the kitchen. I’m not sure that porcelain sinks in the kitchen are that big where I live. I saw one on TV once.
Almost to 100 y’all! WooHoo!!!!!!
Oooops….that would be 700.
#692…funny!
This whole comment thing is making me rather worthless on the family front.
Oh well!
That was funny #692. I can’t imagine.
Who will be #700?
Eldest– Dad says he hopes you are studying enough…
Love,
Momma (grinning)
me
Mary, this is my first comment, but I’ve been reading your blog since you started the 30 Days of Nothing. I appreciate your perspective on so many aspects of life, particularly adoption!
Becky 🙂
How fitting…Mary was #700.
You are fast approaching 700, Mary. OK, I have to get out of here. I need to get up for work at 6:00 am and still have to do stuff tonight! I can’t quit checking the numbers. Nearly as exciting as an election. Also, it seems to have become a little chat room. Avery, that was funny. I have to admit I was a little afraid of the 666, myself. Sarah, thanks for the nice comment on my pitiful little blog. I have no desire to ever, ever even reach 10 comments (let alone 1000 — ha). OK, now, I am really gone.
Waiting for Iyasu
So close eldest daughter. I guess you will have to stick around and try for #800.
Yes I am studying.
Of course, you have to listen to your Dad and study too. 8^)
By the computer, with a book in my lap, hitting refresh every 2 minutes. lol
oops, sorry, I did 700 myself.
And Sarah, you have to quit with the superlatives…remember that post currently at the top of my blog about my son saying he was going to need vice-grips for my swelled head.
(except probably not, because I am all to aware of my flaws….)
But you are sweet, really you are…..
Mary
Me!
Oh, wow! I took too many seconds to write that, and missed the 700. Now, I’m really, really gone. Hope to see 1000 in the morning.
But you did get #7-11, esperandoaiyasu! Very cool!!
Oh, yeah! 7 – 11 is sorta cool : ), Blaine. You guys! I’m not going to be able to teach tomorrow. I teach Spanish, and the UW, and should try to do a decent job. OK!! I GO NOW! NOW!! Bye. OH, yeah, Mary is just so awesome. She deserves 10,000. What a great Mom. And a good writer.
We all have our flaws indeed but some people fail to use their strengths for the good of others.
Ha ha, this is hilarious
3 more hours?
I hope you reach 1,000!
Your family is really cool
jumping on to add to the list and say hi.
I leave for 10 minutes and miss the fight for 700! LOL
I have a large family too
Five brothers and two sisters
We need a comment every minute and 55 seconds here
My youngest brothers are from Ethiopia
i wish i would have had bkf when i lived in my old house. really old porcelan (sp) sink that has seen better days.
to get a thousand by midnight
Chinamama4, your kids are so cute. I couldn’t leave a comment on your blog, it wouldn’t let me. But they look very sweet. Thanks for your comment!!
Just like your adorable daughters! They are around the same ages too–Tekle is four and Aaron just turned two
wow! 5 comments in the the time it took for me to add my 2nd. dialup sucks.
Wow 13 comments since I first commented 4 minutes ago???
wow! 5 comments in the the time it took for me to add my 2nd. dialup stainks. that and wordpress thinks i’m posting too quickly. don’t it know what’s going down today!?!?!
Ooops my last post was inaccurate because more comments came when I was posting!!
Sarah posted a Mitch Hegberg joke earlier today (about rice). Want to hear some more?
Headin’ to bed here on the East coast, but wanted to add one more comment to get it closer to 1000.
Mary, thank you for your gracious response to everyone today. You are truly one of a kind!
Ooooh, this is soooo much fun, but I’m so tired, my eyes are starting to cross! How will I explain to the Moms In Touch mommies tomorrow that my prayers are incoherent because I was up watching Owlhaven get 1,000 comments????
In my opinion 1000 by 5am tomorrow. That was when it all began, that gives the whole world time to respond.
But you all may have it done by midnight!
This guy asked me if I wanted a frozen banana and I said, “No … but I would like a regular banana later, so … yeah.”
–Mitch Hedberg
“At a stoplight, green means go, yellow means slow down, and red means stop. For a banana it’s just the opposite. Green means hold on, yellow means go right ahead, and red means, dude, where did you get that banana at?”
–Mitch Hedberg
Kelsey, I went to your site and I love the scrolling picture of you and your siblings at the top.
LOL…funny! Kelsy, your family looks fun!
“I wanted to buy a candle holder, but the store didn’t have one. So I got a cake. ”
–Mitch Hedberg
Mitch Hedberg is a pretty funny guy!
People! This is nuts!
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer blogger;)
It took me an hour just to read the comments.
And seriously – you have dial-up??
Thanks guys!!
Ok, last joke then I better do some homework 🙂
“When I get a rental car, I usually don’t know a lot about it, so I do things like driving for ten miles with the emergency brake on. That doesn’t say a lot for me, but it really doesn’t say a lot for the “emergency” brake. It’s not really an emergency brake, it’s an emergency make-the-car-smell-funny lever.”
And again with the WordPress wrist slap, “you are commenting too quicly – slow down”
Ok goodnight!
Mary, you will definetly reach 1,000!!
People in Wisconsin need to go to bed now. But you Westerners have a couple more hours.
I expect great things when I wake up;)
Have you ever driven behind someone who left the emergency brake on??
It is an extremely grotesque smell!
Yuk,,,doesn’t sound good!
I just came back to check out how you are doing and WOW 754 that is amazing!!
This is so much more fun than the dishes calling to me from my “in need of barkeeper’s friend” sink. But I think I’ll have to cut myself off somewhere!
First comment came in at 5:05 am, looks like. So, looks like that is tomorrow morning’s cut-off. But anyway, who says this has to stop at 1,000? Ha ha ha. Gone for good, really really this time.
I’ve been working on catching up on leaving comments on everyone else’s blogs. There are a lot of you!
After today i may need to check in the morning and then turn the computer off..
I’ll be back to leave some more comments here after I surf the other blogs a little longer.
There really are alot of contributing commentors today. I have tried to visit all of them. I probably missed a few. So between reading blogs and reading 758 comments…I have been at this computer most of the day. Less my trip to Wal-Mart.
Amazing people you all are!
Agreed Sarah! I’m going to have to turn off the computer tomorrow too!!!
I know I said I was going to go do the dishes 10 min ago!
I have to agree that the stainless steel sinks aren’t the best things in the whole world, and I would gladly have a different one! I can never seem to get mine really clean and sparkling like I REALLY want to get it! Great idea for cleaning the non-stainless sink, though – whenever I get one…
I absolutely love the blog and the pictures with the new camera are absolutely beautiful!!! such gorgeous children…
I wonder how much a case of that stuff would cost… seems like it would take up a lot of room in your already very full house, though! 🙂
You have given “Barkeeper’s Friend” some serious free advertising, though, so maybe you WILL get a free case! let us know!!!
#692 made me laugh. I have a porcelain sink. I need to get some BKF for it because it stains fairly easily.
I have never known why you are ‘owlhaven’ until I read your blurb under the “who’s owlhaven” button… very cool!
Oh believe you-me, I will be calling the 1-800 number previously posted to make sure they realize what a gem today was…after-all. It was Bar Keepers Friend Awareness Day and they may not have even known it.
Yeah,Bekah, I like the owls at our house…
Rebekah is my baby sis, BTW
How can we make it the Official BKF Awareness Day? Pass some kind of legislation or something, right? 😉
Okay, this is totally off topic, but I just got done watching Lost and there was a great line. Sawyer kissed Kate and told her she tasted like strawberries, and she just looked at him and told him he tasted like fish biscuit.
I laughed and laughed. 🙂
Mary, I don’t think that I have ever noticed the owls nesting – you’ll have to show me where they are next time I’m over there on the rocky hillside!
Sarah, you’re making me laugh so much. You poor girl.. you’ll be tired tomorrow! Hubby says that by the time this is done, I will have been responsible for much lost productivity…
closer and closer to the goal of 1000 – yeah!!!
In reply to #774
Perhaps.
But what I have “lost” in terms of productivity, I have far gained by the joy today has been. The people I have met, the places I have traveled. Today has been one of a kind and I have been bleesed to be a part of the journey.
Hey, hope you get to 1000! Have a good one.
y’know, how many times in a lifetime can a person participate in such a grand and wonderful project such as the 1000 comments in one day? it’s an honor to be part of the lost productivity squad – now the lost sleep squad…
I’m back, the kids are in bed. 250 to go.
I feel somewhat sad that I have only caught it on the last 200+ comments… how fun to have watched it all day long!
Eldest, how is your cold?
I decied not to read 520-now. Maybe later.
Thriving.
*Loud sniff*
decided
I am trying very hard to drown it.
OK– #738 is funny!!
Eldest! I’m sure that you are enjoying college as much as I am! I had two tests today – how about you?
ugh
I’ve laughed so much today so all is not lost! PLUS I did keep up with the laundry and make 3 meals, a pie and the house is in sort of ok condition. Anyway, just so your hubby knows that some productivity happend too!
Actually, the dial up is so slow I can page down and read random tidbits while it loads the rest.
I have three tests in the next week.
226 to go…I will be cheering loudly from my dreams. This is good night!
that good, eh, eldest??? 🙂
Oh yes. Loooovely
lol
I’m thinking that $90 for 1000 comments was the worst business decision ever.
three tests!??!?? I have two tests in the next week, with Fall Break stuck there in the middle somewhere – how torturous is it to have tests the day that you return from Break? Who studies on break??? I guess that I’ll have to…
Sarah, I don’t even believe ya! hehe– isn’t this, like, the 7th time you’ve said you are going? hehehe
800???
I must say that gave me great joy!!!
hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At 30 seconds each that’s 500 minutes.
I love how you are Eldest and not Oldest…in my family we always said I was the oldest but eldest sounds a bit formal…yet screaming smart, fun and funny!
Oh man, I thought I was dont but I keep checking back–this is the craziest thing I have ever seen in blogworld
I meant to write “done” not dont…
Brakes make a nasty smell. I never knew how bad it could be until I loved to So Cal (from Colorado), and drove down from the mountains behind some flatlanders. Yuck!!!
this is really very cool… I’m addicted. I’ll just have to forego the sleep for now. Maybe… if I can find some toothpicks to prop my eyelids open…
I am called the oldest by others, but I prefer calling myself eldest.
That’s over 8 hours.
Brian LOL on #797
Eldest…sorry about the cold….drink your OJ
I think that “eldest” fits you, eldest… in my humble opinion!
I must confess, I didn’t visit everyone that commented. Just everyone that commented right before me. That was still A LOT of blogs!
So I guess that’s a little over $10 an hour. Not bad for extra cash.
….and comments. 8^)
I even had some OJ in the fridge…..
But boring as hell if you had to do it by yourself.
Eldest daughter and Rebekah:
I’ve spent this week touring colleges and beginning to fill out applications. The stressed tone in your comments about tests is intimidating me 🙂
It cracks me up the way we are on three different conversations.
btw, eldest, are you really studying?
Sorry Kelsey. Really it’s cool.
Oh, no, there is NO stress involved in college! It’s all butterflies and rainbows! 🙂
Bekah, I was……
This has been cool because we have had the chance to hear from Eldest Daughter, and now, Rebekah. There is a little family reunion going on here at Owlhaven.
Yeah, I may have had enough…I meant to say smart and fun…don’t know where the funny came from.
Hah.
Ha ha. Ok I feel better now!
well, I’m glad that you have taken a study break in order to support the quest of 1000 comments… how long do we have until the time is up? What time zone do they count as the ‘official’ time zone???
But not so bad whe you’re doing it with a lot of funny people.
Blaine, that is one good thing about having a big family – we all rally around each other in times like this – you know, the life changing times that we will always treasure… 🙂
Agreed Brian, boring by yourself…but today was exceptionally silly!
wow, yeah. I feel sorry for all of the family missing this.
No way I’m gettting the “Slow down” on dial up.
i want to scroll through and find out how many comments I have actually made now – I started at 762 about a half hour ago – we’re cookin’, folks!!!
I am proud to have been a part of the lost productivity and sleep project too. 1000 comments is no small feat. Good job everyone!!
Yeah Brian, writing comments for 8 hours straight would drive me nuts. This way is taking longer, but is sooooo much more fun.
this is when high speed internet comes in very handy…
Agreed, Bekah.
Get well soon Eldest!!
I wonder who will be the one to post the 1000th comment?? I bet there will be over 1,000 because everyone will try for that spot lol. I’m content with just observing the last post though. I’ll be relieved because then I can go to bed without wondering whether or not the goal was accomplished!
Yeah, Kelsey, (if you are still here) the dorms are great for High Speed Internet. : )
Thank you Blaine.
Yeah, eldest, it is just not the same for the fam read the comments after the fact… being part of it is the most fun part!
Brian….250 comments that take 30 seconds each is 125 minutes, not 500. 8^)
OH MAN…I am so busted but I could not resist.
The actual true bid was not for a sole person to give the 1000 comments. It reads as follow.
“The 1000 comments will come from 100-400 real people enrolled in an elite comments Strike Force!!! “
I keep getting the stupid “you are about to be redirected to a site that is not secure, would you like to continue?” It could very well drive me nuts.
LOL–hi Sarah!
And see #736 for how long this thing is suppose to last.
I think that I could go to bed right now knowing without a doubt that the goal is going to be accomplished… I think that eldest and owlhaven would be feverishly posting until the last second, if no one else stayed on! 🙂
I tried for #500, but got the slow down.
OK Brian, I am a dork. I just figured out that you were calculating for all 1000 comments. Duh. Sorry.
What? I am just talking to people! I not here for anything else! tut tut, what are you saying?
jk
Yup I’m still here lol. High speed internet—good to know!
I love being part of a big family, Rebekah. For that exact reason.
With 150 remaining do I dare go to bed?
Amazing that this has gone on this long. If we market ourselves on ebay, could we all split the profits?
Sarah, I thought that you were gone for the night?!!
Blaine…I was figuring 1000 comments not 250. Is that what I said. I can’t find the comment.
I thought so as well. I did the shut off the light routiene, good night to the god, checked the kids and then I just could not help myself!
eldest, I would never question your motives… never!
that was suppose to say good night to the dog…
Actually, Bekah I probably would stay up all night and post the rest by myself. I have no class tomorrow, so I could.
Which reminds me that I need to go spend some time with God…I think I will do that and then check back before I sleep.
LOL! Sarah’s back!
I really don’t think I will need to at this rate though.
This is serious temptation, huh Sarah?!!!!!!!!!!!
I think if I was on dial up this whole thing would drive me nuts! I never even would use the internet when we had dial up…I just didn’t have the patience.
Go, Eldest, Go!!!
Wow! Getting closer and closer to that 1,000, huh?
Good luck!
Karen
I think that marketing on ebay would be a good thing – aren’t websites ranked by how many hits they have? Or how many comments they have? owlhaven’s blog must be getting up there on the list today! We could make some money doing this for other people!
Okay, so there’s been one comment every minute and 20 seconds all day. Wow.
I’ve had 3000 page views today!! My max ever before that was 1500..
Dialup really isn’t so bad.
eldest, I don’t think that you are going to have to post any additional comments by yourself to get to 1000… unless we all conk out from lack of sleep…
I wonder who won the thing…or more specifically what he used it for?
Wow, I can’t believe how many comments! Love this blog Mary and your other one too.
Self-control….trying, I wrote a post about it awhile back…search my site. I am learning self-control.
Who needs forums or message boards? All chatting can now be done via Owlhaven’s comments.
So the day of the news article on your larger fam blog, how many hits did that get that day, I never heard the total.
owlhaven, that is pretty cool – what a great advertising tool this 1000 comments has been!
It was many, many years ago when we did dial up so I’m sure it’s way faster now! Wow 3000 page views…WOW!
Came over from Valarie’s site I love my sink but too hate the marks, thanks for the tip on Barkeepers Friend. Will definitely have to try it.
#877 Too funny, Becca!
3000 page views…they need to leave some comments so we’d be done by now!!!
I wonder if there is a restriction on the comments – like if they actually have to be about the post or not?!
These coments have mostly not been about the post…
….except when Sarah was quoting from the BKF can, of course. 8^)
Then again, I probably contributed to a few of those just checking the comments but not having enough time to comment between experiments.
I just looked at my blog stats page and was scanning the searches people did to find my blog. Someone in the last 8 hours found my blog by typing “i took 10 tylenol pm, will i die?”
Could y’all just pray for that person, whoever it is? Kinda made my stomach fall
I definitely don’t have the patience for dialup, either – I don’t know how y’all do it!!! I’d rather not even have internet at home if all I could have was dialup… Wow, I am SO spoiled!!! 🙂
Came over from Valarie’s site I love my sink but too hate the marks, thanks for the tip on Barkeepers Friend. Will definitely have to try it. Thought I would help you close in on 1,000.
Seriously, good night…well. I might lurk to see but sleep is about to take over. I’m going to put in the effort to go get ready for bed anyway!
I’m really hoping to be 900. I’ll try to time it just right…
Dang it!
I had a long rant about Wednesday around 500. That was on topic.
I think that I will actually have to go out and buy some of the BKF – I just remembered that I have non-stainless sinks in non-kitchen areas in my home! They need cleaning, too!
fyi – valarie’s comment was way up in the 300’s
And don’t forget about all the talk fo cleaning up barf with BKF.
I will definitely pray for the 10 tylenol pm person…
I want to be #900!
me me!
I still do….
I’m gonna try not to steal the comment 900 slot, since I got 800. Go, Becca, GO!!!
Darn it! I missed it! Good for you Becca!!!!!!!
YOU DID IT!!! Yeah, Becca!!!
I was #400, so I definitely shouldn’t be greedy. 8^)
I think that I can safely say that this was one of the most unusual and most enjoyable ways that I have ever ended a day… what a treat it has been!
I liked when someone started reading off the bottle.
not leaving yet, though!
I feel kind of silly for asking, but Mary, how do you know what people use to search that makes them end up at your blog? Where do you get these cool graphs for your site and page views?
Woo hoo!!! I did it! Now that my evening’s goal has been achieved, must go to bed.
Wow, I had no idea one could have so many comments on one post. What a sweet thing your son said, and I have to agree with you that children are the best!
yeah, and I totally accidentally got #700
This is painfull on dialup.
If anyone has insomnia, that is just another trick to try – read the label on the bottle of BKF! Your eyes will grow heavy … you will get sleepy…
Joanne got comment #9-11. That’s kind of historic or something.
Or maybe it’s just the extra 400 posts since I stopped posting at work.
Yet another use for this wonderful product that also cleans your sinks and cleans up vomit! 🙂
I wonder who has the most posts today?
Vomit/Barf/Puke….we just can’t get away from it!
that would be something to count…..
#918 Probably Sarah
Blaine,
You can go to sitemeter.com and install free code on your blog that gives you statistics on visits, where people came from, etc. Also WordPress has that feature too, without you even having to add software. I am kinda a charts-and-graphs kida gal, so these features are interesting to me.
Hi Joanne!
And the longest timespan from 1st post to last?
I’ve only been here for an hour, so I’m sure that I don’t have the most posts, but I sure have a lot! Mary, can you sort them by name or anything??? It would be interesting to find out…
Is this our other sister Sarah, or could it potentially be a different Sarah??? 🙂
Lord, I lift up the person who took the 10 tylenol. We pray Lord that they would get the help that they need. Give them the strength to get help. Lord I pray they would seek you in this time. Renew their hope. Show them the way to you. I pray Lord that you would bring people into their lives that will encourage them and love them. Intervene Lord! I pray for healing of the mind, soul and body. We agree together. Work mightily in this life. In Jesus name. Amen
Amen!!!
Amen Sarah…
I use stat counter, it also gives where people came from. Interesting stuff.
Random observation – I am very attached to the smell of Comet – reminds me of my childhood, of my mom, and it’s a good thing. If I start using BKF, I will have to keep a can of the Comet around just for nostalgia, I think…
Rebekah– I don’t think sis Sarah has been here
There were two spans of 32 minutes after the early morning lapse of 49 minutes between 3-4
Yes, and AMEN to the prayer – we are in agreement, in Jesus’ Name!!!
This is my 102nd post. I know Sarah has a ton more though. She talked about her 101st a LONG time ago!
Alright, I’m glad that I didn’t say something embarrassing or incriminating to Sarah, if it’s not my sister! 🙂 Thanks, Mary!
Amen too! I did come back yet again to check!
Brian is the other serious contender, I think
Amen, Sarah
It is really late here and I really should go to bed, but I can’t seem to pull myself away from these comments!!
Goodness, y’all are very dedicated! What are we going to do when we hit 1000???
I am at 127 comments for the day!
Probably keep commenting, Rebekah 8^)
Am strangely compelled to hit refresh. Must pull self away. Must break the spell!
Good question Bekah.
Go Sarah!!!
Throw an online party?
Resist the temptation, Becca….ha, ha, ha
I have to search under two names and don’t have time to check.
that would be fun. Should we hire singers and caterers?
I will picture streamers..
and confetti bursting forth over the blogosphere
…and balloons
Excellent!
I wonder if there’s a code for streamers and balloons to fall down the sidebars when it hits 1000!
It’s kinda short notice for singers and caterers… maybe 10-20 minutes or so – they would probably charge us an arm and a leg for that…
You broadband people need to pick up the pace.
As long as they don’t all materialize in my already cluttered living room…
We need an alarm that blares forth from the computers of everyone who helped. One that says “come to the party at Owlhaven!”
Like when my son decided to crumble the packing peanuts and make it snow!
start blowing up those balloons, folks – it’s getting close!!!
Yeah, I’m trying to force a second wind here!
They can just appear in Mary’s living room!!
Blaine, Susan says hi.
The party will continue on tomorrow as everyone looks on in amazement.
Bekah, really, we should pay for the singers and caterers. It is not every day that someone gets 1000 comments on one post. In fact, I bet this is a first.
This makes me think of my living room when we returned from Ethiopia with our new baby. Balloons, streamers, banners, flowers, etc. It was wonderful!!
Need to go to bed.
Blaine, sounds like a beautiful homecoming! How precious!
Hi Susan!!!! Hope you had a great day. Your husband is awesome. He started this whole amazing thing. Give him a big hug and kiss for all of us, OK?
Brian, don’t give up yet! You’re almost there! Don’t you want to witness the outpouring of celebratory remarks after the 1000 number is reached!?
Do you think the Guiness Book of World Records would do something for this?
#966 That is awesome! I bet it was an emotional day!
It was a great homecoming, Heidi. At 1:00am. My Mom had my three oldest kids (11, 11 & 9) help her with the decorations. It was truly wonderful!!
Done. (the kiss and hug)
eldest, I think that you should do something particularly wonderful for mother dearest like print out all of these comments and get them framed, or something… what fun!
ALL OF THEM?
It was awesome, Sarah!
26 more. probabl less now.
mary correcet me if I am wrong but we had comments from every continent but Antartica.
Blaine, that sounds awesome… wow, I can’t wait! I’m not even in the process of adoption yet, but I eagerly anticipate the day when I will bring home my first baby from Ethiopia!!!
Wow. I wonder how many pages that would be.
hehe–that would take a WHOLE tree!!
Good job, Susan! Good Night!!
AHHH so close!
oh, goodness… one nice thing about my university is that you can print for free from the computer labs on campus – maybe I should print them out!!!
quick we need some scientists to read and comment.
My daughter accidently printed them when it was at 156..It was 18 pages…lol
I can feel the end.
scientists from Antartica
I am so excited to hear you say that Rebekah!!! You will be the third sister to adopt, right?
are we going to reserve 1000 for Mary?????
I dont know what she pressed but all the sudden it was printing and it kept going and going…
Yes, Blaine, I will be the third, unless another sis jumps the gun before I am ready!
its like palying the lotery now.
No, somebody else!
this is so exciting!
Mary has started an amazing family legacy of adoption. Good for you for keeping it going!
Almost to 1000!!!

THe anticipation is causing us to halt…

OK, So it looks like you made it to well over 1000, but anyway………
My sis-in-law told me about barkeepers, now I know I have to try it. And thanks Mary, now I have a hankering for some carrot cake. I ate almost my entire birthday carrot cake myself! That was in Aug, so I guess I’ll need to get baking.
Wow, we could all go together on a 200 LB drum of bar keeper’s friend.
Wow, I walked awayt o make dinner and get kids to be, and clean up, etc. when it was at 526. I forgot to leave a comment before I walked away from the computer. Just kidding 🙂
Ooooh, I have comments! Nobody actually reads my blog, just a few friends and family to see what the girls are up to, so I NEVER get comments (my mom is afraid of her computer)! So cool! Thanks!
1045- In 24 hours. That sounds INSANELY POPULAR!
What a blast!
While I was sleeping, it SNOWED! I can not believe it.
Turning off the computer. Signing off
Sarah

Hey, we do this every Monday as a practice over at my blog and many others that participate. We call it Click & Comment Monday and it’s not just for BlogExplosion members or renters, it’s for blogrolls and sharing the “comment love”.
http://aspenleafhosting.com/cat/?page_id=372 has the information regarding C&C Monday. It’s great fun!
Oh, and Barkeepers Friend? LOVE IT! My dad introduced it to me and it works on stainless steel too. Works for the copper bottom pans that get grungy and brings that pretty copper BACK.
Great commercial 🙂
I’m going to have to try some of this. My sink could use a good scrub. (always.)
Can’t believe I forgot about this yesterday.
I was away from my computer most of the day.
DRAT and RATS
By the time I got home, I totally forgot check.
Glad that you made it over 1000+ comments.

I am impressed! VERY!!! You go girl!!!
Oh my gosh!! Look how far you got! I just check back for the first time today. Well, what I know is this: If I never need anything done (thinking… adoption fundraiser, adoption fundraiser,) I’m going to enlist Brian . Wow. Amazing.
I mean, “checked” back. Mary, you are special!

Hola! This is such a fun idea! I can’t believe there are so many posts!
-Sarah
That was so funny- I had to post- even though I missed the actul day- back at work I have less time to read my favorite blogs!
I miss you!
Emily
Oh my gosh, the number of comments is staggering. I bet you can’t help but giggle with glee.
[…] 0- the number of pictures I’ve been able to view lately on blogspot blogs. Heidi, Shawnda, Shana, and others–why are your pictures not showing up, peeps? To make it more upsetting, Shana currently has nursery pictures and Shawnda has a NEW baby! I must see photos! 2- the number of books I’ve bought on Amazon this month. (Ok, not true, actually I’ve bought 2+1, but I needed the three for this: 3-the number of hours it took one unnamed-but-intelligent child to do 1 easy lesson of math. Also the number of hours I tried more (or less!) successfully to smiling sweetly while repeating a gazillion variations of “Pay attention, honey” when really I wanted to beat my head on any nearby hard surface. 4- the number of boxes I have full of newspaper-wrapped green tomatoes in my garage right now. 5- the number of books-to-read currently piled in a precarious heap on my book stand printer next to my computer 6- the number of boxes of newspaper-wrapped onions I have in my garage right now. 7- the number of times I replaced the throw pillows on the couch today. 8- the number of cucumbers in my fridge right now. 11- the number of Christmas presents I’ve already bought. 12- the time it says on my clock right now, meaning I really oughta go to bed. 32- the number of pictures I took today. 54- the number of RED tomatoes hubby artfully placed on a table RIGHT outside my kitchen window so I ‘won’t forget about them.’ That I am definitely not canning. But that I probably will use in boatloads of spaghetti this week. (Eldest, now you know what to expect for dinner when you come home this weekend.) 88- the number of different people who commented on that one post last week. 100- the number of comments made by Brian (comment shower instigator #1) 140- the number of comments made by Sarah (comment shower instigator #2) 200- the number of words I still need to write for my other blog before I can go to bed. 318- the number of total dollars I spent on groceries last month. 540- the number of dollars I’ve spent on groceries so far THIS month. Ack! I’ll be lucky to stay under $700 at this rate. ?? And the number of jars in my pantry?? Not telling! Go guess if you haven’t already. […]
[…] Doubt it. Not with mischievous munchkins like this one running around. But it won’t be for lack of Barkeeper’s Friend. After all the chatter about BKF on this post, look at the ginormous gift basket arrived today!! Did you even know that Barkeeper’s Friend even made this many products? I sure didn’t! Thanks to everyone who added to the chatter that day. […]
I totally love BKF. It’s the only thing I use, especially on my Calphalon. Everything comes sparkling clean in no time at all. Comet doesn’t even compare to it’s cleaning. And see, it’s worth not having to pay for all those 1000 comments. We love you straight up without the bribery!
[…] brands without first telling you about my beloved Barkeeper’s Friend. Check out this insanely well-commented-upon post for all the details on that particular favorite of mine. In many other things I am willing to go […]
